Earth’s atmosphere is thick, while the Moon’s is almost non-existent. Mars lies somewhere in between, so designing the Mars helicopter Ingenuity takes, well, ingenuity. Flying a helicopter in Mars’s atmosphere is a huge test of technology, just like the Wright brothers early flight experiments in North Carolina.
